Creating alternative perspectives for journalists and media users: the fair use of media within the Israeli-Palestinian conflict
The PET-Med project addresses two key areas in order to interpret the Israeli-Palestinian conflict beyond the deep-rooted stereotypes and bias: the world of media and journalistic communication and the world of school education and teaching.

Peace Education Trough MEDdia
The PET-Med project

The PET-Med is a 24-month project financed by the European Commission’s Programme EU partnership for peace.

The three institutions setting up the partnership – Veneto Region, Palestine-Israel Journal, Netanya Academic College’s Fair Media Center – have designed the activities with the overall objective to enhance the role of media and communication as means to promote tolerance and mutual understanding between communities in conflict, supporting regional integration among Palestinians and Israelis.
The project's objective is to promote the independence and impartiality of the media and raise awareness among media professionals about their role in society and in the circuit of violence.

The project aims to improve the critical ability to narrate the conflict by providing new skills developed in the field of "non-violent journalism".

The school education system has been involved to transfer the principles of peace and non-violent communication developed by media professionals in the area of "peace education".

The development of a new ability to read the conflict beyond prejudices and barriers among the key members of society, including young people and students, will have effect in improving the principles of tolerance and peace in an area of conflict .

The activities were launched on February 1st, 2010.
